NRCA Executive Vice President Bill Good was interviewed this week on Real Estate Today Radio, which is presented by the National Associations of Realtors (NAR).
Real Estate Today Radio airs on radio stations, satellites and podcasts and reaches about 3 million listeners throughout the U.S.
Good spoke to host Gil Gross about proper roof system inspection as part of the program’s series “Think Like a Home Inspector.” He advised homeowners and building owners not to procrastinate when it comes to roof system inspections, suggesting roof systems be checked a couple of times per year. Roof systems are most commonly inspected in the spring and fall.
From the ground, homeowners should look for shingle damage and evidence of aging. They also should look in their attics for signs of staining on the interior ceiling, discoloring of plaster board, damaged insulation and any signs of daylight, which can indicate a leak in the roof.
Good recommended homeowners contact professional roofing contractors to inspect areas around chimneys, vents or anywhere else there is penetration of a roof system and reminded listeners spotting problems on a roof system early will save them money in the long run.
