Bloomberg BNA – “Rooftop Transmitters May Pose Radiation Hazards, Joint Union-Industry Alert Warns”

An article published in Bloomberg BNA’s Nov. 24 issue highlights the joint safety alert recently issued by NRCA and the United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers (UURWAW). The alert was intended to increase awareness among roofing workers of possible radiofrequency (RF) hazards on rooftops. Exposures for workforce locations present a greater concern for rooftop workers who can experience longer exposure duration to RF levels.

According to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), high levels of RF may heat biological tissue and increase body temperature, resulting in the body’s inability to dissipate heat buildup quickly enough to avoid tissue damage.
